Ta for the comments.
Yup, you are lucky you live in place that only requires the rear plate.
Unfortunately in the UK we have to have front and rear number plates. I didn't want to spoil the front curves of the car by having a standard nose mounted plate so elected to fit a self adhesive one to the carbon fibre bonnet/hood, which i think goes very well. I've certainly had lots of positive feedback from the many car shows I have gone to, many people saying the stick on plate adds to the character of the car. I know it's probably not to everyone's taste but hey ho.

BTW, I see that about a third of the states in the USA don't require front plates. Does that cause any problems if you drive to a state that requires both plates?

Actually in California a front plate is required but since so many states don't if you don't have yours it doesn't raise any issues as long as the police doesn't see both ends.

At least that's been my experience.

Don is on to something there. I haven't done a study to confirm, but i would estimate that over half of CA cars have "lost" the front plate. Mine was zipped tied to the front grille--fell off in the garage. Sad. Looking for some new zip ties.

I have yet to see a XK8/XKR with a front license plate here in California. Mine originally came from Florida and it never had a bracket or a plate on the front. I do know they will give you a ticket if you don't have one. My son purchased a new Mazda 3 and it didn't have a mounting bracket for a front plate so he never put one on. He received a ticket from a meter maid when he parked it on the street. Now, I just make sure I never park it on the street.

No, each state respects the other state's laws.

No, it is not a problem. Your state's license plate rules apply to you no matter where you go... and luckily I am in Florida where only the rear is required

Oops... didn't see the post from Don.

Here in Washington, ''The Greatest State in the World'', we are required to have front license plates. With all of the Microsoft zillionaires driving around in Lambos and Aventeadorables(sp) the front license plates are not really enforced. The XK8 and the 911 don't have front plates. My '88 Olds daily driver does. In '015, I purchased an '02 S600 Twin-Turbo V12, from Florida. When I got it home to Washington I ghettoed it. Slammed, wheels and tires. Gangsta' stuff. No front plate. Right away the police pull me over. ''Where's the plate''? Uh,,,Gee Officer......blah, blah, blah. I bought the plate mount. Crawled around in front of the S600 and said 'no way' am I drilling holes in this car. Local police stopped me 'cause my gangsta' car is new in town and the local Po-lice stop newbies in town to make sure you're not an 'illegal immigrant'' our some ****&Bull story. Been going on for 40 years here in Small-town, USA.

'Cheers'

Bit late to the party, but the plate placing is reminiscent of the E-Type and looks just fine, IMO. Surprised you don't get attention from the pollis, though? Vertical mounting, clearly visible (to speed cameras), yada yada.

Love the colour BTW

Sorry Guys! I don't have a Front License Plate Bracket.....I told the last Cop that asked about it that I had ordered one from England but it hasn't come in yet! Still haven't received it! Guess I have to get one like Caley's...…

hi,
British Racing Green
At first I saw the picture and my thoughts were like, "Wow, never seen that color on an XK8, must be petrol blue or blue /gray , very nice indeed, no matter if it's original or not."
Presumably it was the bright sunlight that lead me wrong, anyhow, British racing green is a great color too. The neighborhood is also nice for a car like this ;-)

Thanks! Much hard work color sanding and buffing. Stole the blade removal from the nose from another forum member, I think I will keep it.

I like the black Apollos. Did you powder coat or paint them?

wymjym,

With the Hills in the background, I assume this Photo is out west of Austin....It's a Beautiful XK Convertible but I still wish it had Clear Repeater and Marker Lens! That's my thought for the Day! I know you disagree but that's OK! It still a Beautiful XK...

Is that little White Building out in the Field, an old ATC Radial? Can't see it quite good enough to tell...…………

Thanks for the Photo!
