Default X100 Cam Covers et al. Oil Everywhere. Need. Now.

Howdy, Team.

Apologies if this info is on the forum, I'm an antipodean dumb **** and can't find my slippers in the morning, let alone a link here pointing to a stellar vendor.

2000 XKR with buckled cam covers. May have been my clumsy hands over-torquing the cam cover bolts out of sequence. I'm not saying.

Require: Cam Covers, gaskets, cam cover bolts, etc, etc. Pretty much everything within the dotted lines.

Cost of living is high. Pennies are scarce. Any pointers to a kind and trusted supplier appreciated.

Gazza.

Ouch!

If you are looking for new replacements, JLR are showing the Camshaft Covers in stock but, unsurprisingly the cost is a bit of a fright.

The main parts site:
https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com

An example for the cover:
https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic...aft-cover.html

Used covers are going to be hard to come by in NZ which could leave importing from one of the specialist UK breakers as the only likely source.

A wrecked engine from overheating isn't an unusual occurrence so one of our members may have the parts you need lying in the back of their garage. Give an advertisement in our Marketplace forum ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/market/ ) a try.

Apart from your current problem, the XKR looks great.

Graham

^^ What he said.

The cam cover part #s are:
LH AJ83272 -> (C2A1513) GBP 275 available from Jaguar Heritage
RH AJ82553 -> (C2A1515) NLA

The covers from an early XK8 or XJ8 are the same, so you have more chance of finding a donor car.

Are yours really beyond redemption?

Yeah Man... What so bad couldah happened that you need EVERYTHING? I want to know more about that... Did the covers crack, or sumpthin?

I should have looked, I don't know where you are. In the US, on eBay, there are 2 great sellers that can hook you up with the covers for a fair price. Then, in the UK, there is a group (AUTORESERVE) that should have what you need at a fair price. They are great.

WTF is ChCH but having said that only the gasket can fail on the road so why do you need all the other stuff?
Check you have not got a blocked breather or that could overcome the seals. ( in the top of the RH cover)

Thank you all for your prompt replies. Appreciated.

Chch is an abbreviation for Christchurch, New Zealand. Earthquake Central. 27,085 earthquakes here since 2010... I'll expand my location if I can work out how to edit my profile.

Canterbury Quake Live

The covers are definitely cracked. Attempted to repair them several times but their gone-burgers. The rear of the left-side cover is the worst offender, dropping oil onto the header. Not a great look when you pull up to the lights with oil smoke billowing out of the bonnet vent. I carry a fire extinguisher...

I am requesting P&A for the complete 'dotted line' set as a local supplier has said that they can import the set from the UK for NZD500 per side (GBP260, USD300).
1. This seems to be a bloody good deal. Too good to be true?
2. If I can locate the UK supplier of this kit, then I can eliminate the 'middleman markup' and save money.

Long list of repairs have I have completed: new shocks, ABS repaired, new coils and plugs, oil cooler lines replaced after they split and dumped most of the oil onto a nicely groomed suburban street, Gen 1 cam chain tensioners replaced with Gen 3, water overflow tank pipe work replaced, 12 months to locate a loose fuel hard line next to the fuel tank (grrr), supercharger over-driven 25%, free-flowing exhaust system, supercharger belt, ancillary belt, I'm sure that there are more...these beasts are a labour of love.

Also in the process of replacing the 14HU differential. Short version of a long story: previous owner (my late best mate) loved doing burnouts and cooked the small central shaft inside the diff that the side-gears/spider gears run on...found a low-km 2nd hand unit in Auckland and that is due here next week. Stay tuned.

They are a beautiful looking car.

Cheers, Gazza.

Thx for your kind words, but I am just an overly energetic amateur. Try everything twice, make a complete hash of it, then scream for help!

i have these in your thin gasket model but shipping will probably be too expensive. xj8 3.2 and xjr from mid 99 model year use the same cover

you don’t want to downgrade to the early covers, the gaskets cost way more and are not available fast from chinese sellers.
