Default Why prices so low - lots of reasons

Well, any old luxury cars will need work either now or in the near future. As this Jag had cutting edge tech, for the time, faults are common as they age and may take specialist knowledge to fix.

It’s common for owners to sell the car when they get a huge repair quote that costs more then they paid for the car. Knowledgeable Jag owners need to see maintenance records as they know what the common faults are and how much they cost to repair. Buying (and for some just finding) parts is one thing, fitting them is another.

As Rothwell says, budget for buying the car and same again for parts. Other Forum members say that the X100 is for home DIYer mechanics as the cost of specialist labour will empty your bank account. I myself bought a first Gen XK8 as a bit of fun car to work on in my garage. That’s not what most people want.

Also the X100 is a niche car. Not really main stream in sport’s performance but has a certain beauty, a lovely V8 engine, and designed to be a comfortable long distance cruiser. That combination should always make you Careful. This cat can be really temperamental. When things go wrong, the costs can mount up quickly.

It's a 20 year old Jag. Jaguars have a bad reputation, deservedly or not. That hurts used values a lot.

What they said.

British cars from the 90s tend not to be worth much. They're not as prestigious, exciting, or beloved as the Italians and Germans, but can come with repair bills that rival them. And, while I love my car, and the 4.0L is as much as any car really needs, a fast car it is not. Nor does it handle in a particularly inspiring way. And it sounds very tame.

The most appealing thing about the X100s and (in my biased opinion) especially the coupes is that they're pretty. But that's not yet enough to carry a lot of value. Maybe someday, but not now.
