'Bonnet' ? ? ?
Ya'll from Georgia and have a bonnet?
The hood latch is a very difficult issue to deal with. Not having had that problem I can only refer you to one of many posts on the subject:

The "BONNET" release (icon_wink) goes to the drivers side (right) and then another cable goes from there to the opposite, I would have to assume this has come detatched or broken, trust me you will not get access from the wheel well unless you are willing to cut through the entire box section, also bare in mind your ECU lives in there!
I would try and lift the side you can as much as you can, remove the cover and start to have a feel around, the cable goes back towards the screen and along the bulkhead I beleive, I will take a look later, I have a couple of cars with the scuttle removed.

I take back what I said, the cables are seperate, both cables come from the lever in the cockpit.... I took a look this morning....
The one given you the problem goes right underneath the windscreen, you "may" be very lucky and the trouble could be at the lever end, remove the kick panel next to the lever and this will give you good access.... and pray!

Greetings and thank you for your insights.. I previously ck'ed the cable ends at the control lever on the drivers side.. The two cables we attached (darn__that would have been an easy fix) and both move when the lever is pulled... My guess is the passangers side hook may have 'popped' out.
I lifted the drivers side up an used a block of wood to support it to see if I could see the problem on the passangers side. No luck yet...but will keep trying. I will hold off on punching any whole under the wheelweld..
Cheers

Hi I have been out and looked at my hood catch. The black plastic tray where the wipers go through has a drain hole at each end.Would it be possible to drill a hole above the drain hole which brings you out at the back of the catch and then put a wire through to open the catch?Afterwards you can plug the the hole with a plastic cap.Would need a flexible drive to drill the hole.

It looks to be an option to go through that way but the catch has to be pushed towards the front of the car to release it and I can't see a way of applying sufficient pressure on it.
It says it all when Jaguar don't have a TSB on this!
Whatever the approach, some drilling is inevitable. I'd be tempted to put a 1/16 inch or even a 1/32 inch hole in the bonnet and through the striker plate directly above the catch.
The drill bit itself or a small screwdriver could then be used to pop the catch. Filling / painting the hole is just like fixing another stone chip.
I'm also interested to see how goldentouch solves it.

Looking at my latch on the 2000 XK8 I find a water drain rubber tube that goes from the area of the wipers to the area right under the latch and out through the side to the area of the wheel well. Removing the plastic in the wheel well might reveal that that tube can be cut away and the hole used to insert a big screw drive an push the latch forward to release it.
Might be worth a try.

Gus,
Have I got this wrong in my earlier post?
My 2001 XK8 and present 2005 XK8 both have similar striker plates (item '4' in the JPG). The one in your illustration is different and looks like the XJ saloon pin type striker. Is the 1999 XK8 this type?
