Very true observation, and an image Toyota is trying to shake off after killing any semblance of a sports car they had years ago. Reliable products ('cept for that little recall bit a year or so ago), but about as exciting as a refrigerator.

But this time I think I am going to this car for a long long time.

BurgXK8 - Love your signature line:

Because life is too short to drive a Prius!

However, those of us who are 20 years your senior will also tell you that life is too long to be stuck with a Prius.

Cheers,

Looks like I hit the average again, being 53.

At least I drive a decidedly non-average car and love it!

The Jaguar XK Special Edition From £59,900 On The Road

what does that mean:

In Oz $92000 and $101500 (cant believe the exchange rate, 1.5 to pound 3 years ago it was 2)

In US $97368 and $107104

Second hand prices in US also a lot cheaper £15-18k in Uk ($24-S29)will buy you a 2002/3 XKR conv.

How does this compare?
A mate at work just got a suggestion to look at 2001 XK8 with 88K miles for $13k from his wife. I showed a 2001 XKR with 55K miles at $15K.
The prices for 2001/3 XKR convertible ranged from $15K to $19K or 9,400 pounds to 11,900 pounds.

Glad to see that people have many interests in common (besides XK’s)
And also sorry about not adding a poll?? It sounds like a great idea, but I didn’t really think of it.

Happy XK,ing
Thanks for the numbers. And thanks to who started that poll. This is simply one of the most entertaining threads in a long time.

Having said that I have a Nissan Navara dualcab ute that is just a totally reliable workhorse of a vehicle and I love it. It keeps the Jag's going !!!
Toyota is great. Got one, too. Well, they call that one a Lexus where I am but a Landcruiser 1 in the rest of the world. My wife drives it. Totally reliable and.......so boring...but still the best to get from a to b.

[quote=gears;369000]Toyota is great. No argument there gears. They could just do with a little vavavavoom in the excitement department. Down here Japanese cars are very popular and Toyota,Nissan & Mitsubishi carve up the 4WD market. A lot to do with both Japan & Oz being RHD and the USA auto guys seem to have an ingrown-genetic-block when it comes to RHD.

Since we're comparing prices...here's a link so you can see what a new XJ costs down here. Deep breaths are recommemded !!

£185k for a car that in the UK would be £66k holy creepers batman.

Is the duty based on emissions Jag is 3 times more expensive but something smaller say a smart is 1 1/2 times?

Interesting what cars are for sale that are not in the UK:

Chery
Elfin- looks interesting
Geely -must be rubbish $12000! why so cheap compared to $22000 for a smart
Great Wall- cheap again, is it something to do with the fact that its Chinese?
HDT is that part of GM/ Holden?
The Maloo looks mental

Interesting, thanks for the post

I will say this about my Prius, I drove it for 3 1/2 years and put 80,000 miles on it. 6 weeks ago, I sold it for enough money to buy an XK8 convertible with fewer miles on it, with a bit left over to fund (well...most of) the repairs on the Jag. The Jag costs much more to operate and keep running, but who cares, it's also WAY more fun to drive.

45 - bought it new as a 40th B-day present. I had my first XK8 when I was 33. Since we do not have children we refer to our Jaguar "habit" as our kids and their college education.

...and I will say this about the Prius...write to me when you see a headstone that says " He died with a smile on his face driving his Prius ". The Prius and all that it stands for is a CON on humanity. It's not green. It just looks like its green. It's a CON. Jags are true green because if you love 'em and you look after them they will transport you for ever ...to the heavens and beyond !!

57. So the Prius receives some well deserved comments. Now if it will just get some national exposure...like Dustin Hoffman (playing "Rainman") ..."Prius sucks".

You got it "batman" .... and we got government "out of control".
Also cars maybe ....HDT refers to Holden Dealer Team.... which refers to Bathurst 1000 ... if you need more info PM me no problems.

Gotta admit it's Sunday night and I'm a bottle of Shiraz gone but a flash of light came to me ... PRIUS stands for P.ensioner R.iding I.n U.ndertaker's S.eat.

So if you're neeeearly dead or even if you feel that way ...hey ... it's the car for you !!

PS Give C02 a break ... the plants need a holiday too !!

Default Best Prius story

In 2009 we went to see v12 Andrachuk at JOTI, BC. We hired a car in SF. P---ed me off becuase I could NOT hire a Jag from the rental majors in SF. So we rented a Mustang (desperation will do that to you ...OK?) . Anyway we drove much too fast up the coast & back from SF to BC. Lot's of super highway. The BEST sport was blowin' the doors of lawn lickin' greenie Prius's. I just loooved it !!! Nice long hill ...I'd pull up beside 'em like I was a kindred spirit all kissy kissy ..and then I'd pedal to the metal kiss'em bye bye. I just cried as they disappeared in the rearview mirror.....
