XK owners not too friendly
#24
I used to drive big Boeings. When an approaching plane....at a different level I hasten to add...was seen we used to flash our landing lights to say Hi.
One day we got an order from the dear management that we were to stop doing it since it reduced the life of the bulbs.
Since then I imagine that our rivals used to think " miserable BA pilots!"

Sometimes we do more than wave.
As I was driving home earlier today, I saw a 07 XK (silver with black roof incidentally) parked in front of a local small shop. As I typically see no other XKs in my small town, I immediately pulled into the parking lot and walked over the other XK owner (an older guy). I held out my hand and said, "Nice taste in cars". He spied my indigo 08 XK, promptly answered in kind, and we got to talking...
Turns out he had purchased the car at a Charlotte, NC dealer about a month ago and was told NOTHING about the car by the salesman. He did not know there was a "hard key" in the fob and what it was for. He did not know how to get into the car should the battery die, did not know about the importance of locking the car to save the battery, did not know how to reset his trip odometer, and was pretty much confused by the whole set up of the touch screen controls. I spent about fifteen minutes showing the man how to operate everything I could think of. In the end, the man was quite appreciative to say the least and I let him know he had friends out there, real Jaguar enthusiasts; people who just love these cars...
...and I bet he will surely wave at the next XK he sees....

Interesting topic, I still drive big Boeings and sadly the landing light wave once always expected has become very rare. Never thought BA pilots were rude Malbec.
Ride a Harley but have been into all kinds of bikes for most of my life. Wave to all, if they are on two wheels they are a friend of mine! Motorcyclists are a VERY fraternal group.
Can't report on the Jag thing, don't see very many, maybe a few every 6 months.

Maybe that is because they realize that if you like them, that they will be seeing a lot of you. LOL

J/K We bikers do have the friendly wave of acknowledgement down and I have found the most friendly jag owners are here, on this site. Screw the rest ...

Oh, I'm not a waver. I will give a head nod, but most people driving Jags around here are in their own little worlds and are oblivious to their surroundings, myself mostly included. It probably doesn't help that my XKR is probably one of the nicest XK's in town.

I live in Dallas. Not much waving, but a lot of head-nodding and smiling.
But, that's Texas for you. Lots of friendly people.
If you want to get waved at, buy a Harley. All bikers wave at one another, especially
Harley guys.
Harley owners will stop and help Harley guys broken down on the side of the road.
I've done it dozens of times, and have been rescued by fellow Harley owners on several occasions. Harley owners are a very diverse group, but they do share a passion and respect for their machines and others who ride them.
Don't quite understand the fear of waving at someone. If you live in fear that a wave can result in violence, you have much deeper issues. But, that's just my opinion.
But, then again, I know everything. Hah!
