Having just stripped the front of my engine due to a rattle only to find everything as it should be no broken tensioners or guides. I am going to replace the lot with 4th gen kit but do the VT fail and if so how as there isnt much to them or is it the oil ways get clogged and can be cleaned anyone had experience with VVT problems or know how to test them. Just for note solenoid working fine

Good day,
I'm not sure if there is a way to "test" them off the car other than what I did in "my project" on page 5... Not sure if you are aware, but there is an in-depth method to timing these motors... I would advise getting the timing kit... if the your motor looks as bad as mine did, you may have issues with the VVT hanging up... Finding a rattle that isn't obvious when you pull everything apart is frustrating...
Good luck and let us know if you need any more assistance!!
Cheers!!

I cheated... I didn't use the timing kit... I think there are cam locks, crank position tool and maybe some other stuff... I think a google search or someone could help with the link to the kit...
Here is my project...
