This problem has been covered many times over the years: It's called bore wash. When you start a cold engine the ECU provides a rich fuel mixture. If it's then shut off there will be raw fuel in the cylinders which washes the residual oil from the rings resulting in compression too low to restart. So always allow the engine to warm up before shutting off.
There are two cures. The first is to depress the gas pedal to the floor, which shuts off fuel to the injectors, and crank the engine for several bursts of 10- 15 seconds, then lift foot to partial throttle and try to start.
If that doesn't work remove the spark plugs from one bank and use a syringe to put about 1/2 oz oil into each cylinder, crank a few times with foot to the floor to distribute the oil, replace plugs and restart. Be prepared for a lot of blue smoke.

If you mean that it turns over but does not fire, the problem probably is Bore Wash from a very rich mixture reducing compression.
You should always warm the car up before turning it off even though you moved only several feet.
Removing the Spark Plugs and squirting oil into the Cylinders should restore compression and allow the engine to start

Thank You for your advice, unfortunately the battery has gone completely flat.Recharged the battery to follow the sequence as advised but now the starter motor does not engage at all, plenty of battery power on the instrument panel but when I turn the key there is a clear clicking noise and no starter motor engagement.I would be grateful for any help.Thank you

If you hear the clicking at the starter it is a good possibility that the feed to the starter or the starter has a problem. If you look at the power feed it provides a separate feed to the starter. Make your checks and see what you come up with.
