Default XK8 electrical

Hi Guys, mine's 2003, weird fault message "check rear lights" then "cruise not available". Battery is absolutely fine. This is intermittent & happens sometimes well into journey, (lights are fine too when I checked) but once cruise control is engaged it does not fail , only when I turn cruise off or use brake. Often after this it will not engage again until later or else the fault message appears & will not go away until the system is reset by turning ign off then on again. any ideas pls. car is in Aus. cheers Mike

Just wondering how you know the battery's fine.

Even if it is, power from it may not be - i.e. bad wire/connector/etc

Both excellent suggestions above. I would first check the battery followed by the grounds.
The brake switch is a fiddle but well worth checking also.
Check the age of the battery also.

I'm having exactly the same issue with my 2004. Advice on this forum down below was that it is probably the dual switch that operates the brake lights and disconnects the cruise control (if it is on). $158 and a b**ch to change unless you are a small contortionist. I'm going to get my grandson to help me when I do mine.

many tks for info . I did trawl thru the posts & found the answer there as well. definitely the brake switch, I do regularly charge the battery which ,incidentally is new (although this is the third one after the bosch batteries were failing) I am a LAME (aircraft engineer) so I'm used to being a contortionist! I expect to find the connection faulty as this warning is but intermittent at present. cheers Mike
