Performance improvement/decrease is negligible for these particular mods. Its for sound only, unless you choose to replace the entire exhaust pipe from the cats back.

Everyone that has tried this particular mod seems more than satisfied with just the center removed and/or replaced with the x/h pipe, and no other silencers behind it touched. I'd recommend doing the same, its easier to remove something later, than to add it back if you don't like it. I'll bet you'll be pleased.

Well do, not to jump subject but I was looking at your Jag Galleries (Matt) it looks like you've upgraded your sound system. Did you have to wire each componet or where you able to get a wire harness? If you change the head unit? and installation kit?

Real quick Chris, when I had it done (2.5 years ago) I could not find a harness, so its all hardwired. Looking back now, I don't mind it, because the car is never going back to the stock entertainment system or navigation, it has more value now WITH it. Most installs you can't say that.

Harnesses for the XK8-R range like ours are available, but from a vendor in the UK. Brobin did a recent thread about his install, and he can give you the source for the harness, if you choose to go that route.

The wiring harness adapter for the standard radio is Autoleads PC2-55-4. Google that to find dealers. You can also splice to the existing wiring using Quick Splices without removing the existing plug but the adapter does make it easy. You'll also want to buy a PAC Audio SWI-PS if your head unit will accommodate it to retain the steering wheel control functions. See https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...nstalled+radio

Three weeks ago I desided to add the growl to the cat and removed the center muffler and put in the magnaflow crossover. But the muffler guy(He has a great reputation with the all the car clubs) talked me into removing the silencers as well.
When H20 started this he mention the 2.5" xover so that was what I got.
I had them put in 2.5" SS pipe, all the welds look perfect, from the cats thru the xover and 2.5 inch up to the factory pipe just before it goes up and over the shafts and I left the factory muffler in the rear(I cleaned with Bar keeper friend and a 3M PAD and they shine better then new.We left the rear pipe(less that 24 inches) to offer some resistence so as to not have faults.Added 3.5 Magnaflow oval tips to the factory rear Mufflers and I have a system that looks like Matts from the rear.
The other car in the shop with mine was a 2010 M6 Bimmer and he was taking out he center muffler as well as his cats, all the sensors were before his cats so the management system didn't fault.I Didn't get to hear what his car sounded like but I found out he owns the independent shop that services Jags, and other exotic cars so I am going over there and have him fire it up for me.I have got to say that everything under that Bimmer was a work of art.

I have been driving it this way for three and am loving it.We had Back to the 50's at the Minnesota State Fair Ground and that night I went up to the local drive in(Porky's) and I held my own DB level with them.I was surprise that my XKR had a lower growl that the large V8 Mustangs and Corvettes.Another way to put a smile on my face

How about some pics eagle, would love to see the final product.

So, you ended up with new 2.5" pipes from the cats back to the rear axle, the x-pipe, and just one pair of silencers? (I assume the ones just before the axle?

Talking

OK, yesterday I officially turn my house cat into a real JAGUAR!!!!!I took my baby to the shop and they gave me back a recipe for getting tickets and burning more premium gas. So they didn't do what I ask them too but its OK, they not only removed the center but the two right after it and left the two boxes and I already had tips so now pedestrians look to see whats coming down the road. I have to say that was the only piece of the puzzle missing form the XK8. Thanks for the push guys, now I'm going to tackle this tape deck project. Thanks for the info on the radio install, I will update after I finish it.

nice eagle! The wheels look great on your car by the way.

Chris and eagle, if you've got a point n shoot, we'd love to hear some video...but that may require a free photobucket account so you can upload them somewhere.

Each of you have gone above and beyond the center muffler removal/replacement, others may be interested to hear the volume difference without those other silencers.

Hi - I just got back from Ox Bow Mufflers and they cut off the heavy center muffler and welded in two straights. Nice and mellow. Not mindful of a GrandPrix car, but rather an old Pontiac or Mercury with cherry bombs, but little sound when cruising or coasting down - a bit of a roar when accelerating, and a little bark when she shifts. For little money, a nice touch for tose that want a little report from the cat.

I just had my muffler guy cut out the center muffler and add two straight pipes. He also added a H tube just behind the transmission replacing a support/spacer so there would be more distance between the joined pipes. I have to admit it sounds so much better and under heavy acceleration is quite throaty.

A side note: My engine seems to be running a little more smoothly and seems to idle about 100 rpm lower... at about 600 now.

Sounds nice. Maybe a little too loud. I'm thinking I should have done an x-pipe now, but I'm very happy with how it has turned out.

I have two straight pipes, without crossing, instead of resonator and I am not happy with it. Sound is louder, but not exciting, like a big block car, or something with 500+hp should be. It has a bit of a fart to it, instead or throaty rumble, I was hoping for.
I will go back and have x-pipe made, will see then...

I am confused. There are two muffs/cats right off motor, then the middle one then the two at the back end? Which ones do what? Why 5 of these on the damn car??
Cutting off JUST the middle big muff won't throw codes as these cars seem to be tempermental if you f with them from orig config!?!?!?!?

cats > center muffler > side muffler > resonators > tailpipe

No. The only thing that may cause a code is if you don't have enough back pressure or alter anything in front of the sensors.

So cutting out the one mid muffler will make the kitty growl some?
