XK8 Headlight/Headlamp Bulbs - Need Some information
Hey Guys,
Last night one of my headlights burned out. I went online and did some Googling and came up with a D2S bulb, but running around today I couldn't find one (for $126 bucks a bulb).
Then I removed the bulb and its hard to tell if its blown (hoping its a bulb not a ballast issue). But while shopping tonight from the photos I have seen I am looking for an D1S bulb which has a square metal base on the bottom of it.
So these bulbs are available from 40/pr to 244/pr to 466 for PIAA on Google.
So my question is... Which bulbs do I want? Anyone have experience with the different manufacturers and different colors and a vendor to recommend for this.
From what I have read, I think I want to replace both sides so that the headlamp colors match.
THoughts ????
Thanks
Dave B

I've got 6k's in my Lincoln and with conventional reflectors the color is perfect. However, 6k's with the Jag's projectors are too blue. The 4300s would be a better choice to see by. Assuming you're in search for some funk with the 12k's I'd suggest dropping down a few pegs because, considering the low height of the lamps to begin with, anything much over 6k will drastically inhibit your vision. And if you're considering HIDs for the high beams don't forget how the lag time for warm-up will affect turning them on.

02fish, ebay search for 'D1S OSRAM' results in plenty of (OEM) bulbs, and if you replace with a new one, I'd just do both at once to keep the output the same, or you could buy one of the used OSRAM bulbs, and hope they're pretty close...that'd be the cheapest route - $20. If it were me, I'd do the $130 for the pair.

hey muta, kudos to you for at least going with the 4300k HIDs, and if you have to get new ballasts and connectors, aftermarket kit is the way to go! Did you see we have a poll in the Exterior section of teh forum, just for this very topic - color of HIDs?
In 02s situation, he already has the system, his ignitor and bulb is at fault...and if he went aftermarket, he'd have to replace more than just a single part. That's probably why he's looking for OEM replacement.

This is a thread from a previous forum sponsor, that probably still sells these kits. Lots of good reviews you can read about in there.
By all that is good and holy in the world, please do not do more than 6000k. Our poll shows that this is the most 'attractive yet safe' color spectrum.
