Bob.

Can you drive the car ?? I had similar (though not identical) problems when I first got my car - all sorts of strange messages, lights, things not working etc. - sometimes WITH the CAN fault code, sometimes not.
For me, a new battery seemed to solve the problem, but apart from not being able to get the car out of park without pressing the release mechanism by the J Gate, I could drive the car OK - albeit with the dash lit up like a Christmas Tree.
You can test the CAN network with a multimeter - if you search on "Multiplex Advanced Diagnosis" there's a document that I think Bob Gauff (Motorcarman ?) put online - look at pages 24/25.
Also - this schematic might help.

David,

Thanks for the info, I can't seem to find how to search for the Multiplex Advanced Diagnosis documents, it does not show in the search. I am still learning my way around this site.

Default Advanced Diagnosis documents 2000 xk8

I have checked the DLC pins 6+ & 14- and get readings right around 56 ohms.
Also voltage readings are 6+ 2.65V & 14- 2.3V, according to the advanced diagnostic's lower than 60 ohms could indicate a short circuit on the buss? I already had the INST. Repaired was told they removed excessive solder, installed a new control regulator transistor, reflowed solder on the CAN controller chip.

Bench tested and had full communication with CAN no faulty packs of data. This was all performed by Module Master in Moscow, ID USA.

Now as this is an intermittent problem more times in the fault mode, then not. What would be the next logical system (Module) to test?

Robert...double check fuses #14 and #18 in the fusebox on the driver's side of the dashboard.

Also, 56 ohms is close enough not to be considered a problem.

Thumbs up XK8 Instrument Cluster faults

Finally resolution to the CAN communication errors on my instrument cluster!
Despite sending the cluster out to Module Master in ID USA, and being told it was working correctly bench tested, repaired etc.

I decided to purchase another used cluster from e-bay and walha all is working correctly as it should, my many thanks to all the support received, now I can move on the all the Jaguar issues that are pretty straight forward.
Cup holder, abs light, etc..

Beautiful looking car, Bob.
Glad you got the some of the gremlins sorted.

Might be a combination of the billiard-ball shine and my failing eyesight, but does it really have a sunroof fitted?

Hi Bob,

I'm having the same problem with my instrument cluster. When you installed the new one. Was it just a straight swap? No programming needed?

This thread was last used over 1 1/2 years ago and the OP may not be around. It would be better to open a new thread and explain your problem.
