On the end of the dashboard, near the door, on the driver's side, you will find a cover with a fusebox behind it. Remove the cover, and locate fuse #F16. The fuse numbers are embossed in the black plastic rail beside the fuses. The fuse itself will have a '5' on it, since it is a 5 amp fuse. Check if this fuse is blown and replace it if it is.

Report back here either way.

In the future, if you must jump the car, make sure the donor car is not running. The electrical system can be damaged otherwise.

jaguar-girl,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

I was going to say try a hard reboot ! But if you had the battery out with no power on the car to change it the it , it should have reset itself afterwards.
Hope the fuse trick works!

Halfords should have the fuses, they are common types.

Also, there should be a few spare fuses taped to the underside of the cover of the other fusebox in the boot, near the battery (unless they have been removed already), courtesy of Jaguar.

I believe to do a hard reset you have to take the positive terminal off the battery and touch the ground wire with it. Just sitting may not do a hard reset. Search on the forum for Hard Reset. The Transmissions are sealed and although a lot of people do a flush and filter change I do not believe that has anything to do with your problem. I believe the fuse is probably the issue.

Second photograph .... fuses are numbered 1-9 on right, and 10-18 on left. You don't have a 3 or 18 (which is correct).
So ................. 16 is the orange 5A between the white 25A and the blue 15A (7th down !)

Edit - under the lid of the big fuse box in the boot, not only are there spare fuses, but there should also be a little plastic gadget thingy to get fuses out of fuseholders without breaking nails !!! :-)

I hope you can find a competent repair shop so that you can avoid the dealer. I'm sure there are good ones, but as soon as they mention software upgrades and computer time I get nervous.

Ok! Do you know if the codes could be cleared and if so did they all come back?

As for the transmission you say it shifts properly in manual mode are you suggesting that you can put the shifter in 5th position and it shifts properly from start to normal speed but when you put it in “D” from a start it will not up shift. If this is true I would suggest that you have your shifter cable adjustment.

As for the other codes I would want to know if they cleared. A low voltage battery will give you erroneous codes that can put you in the wrong direction. As for jump starting your car I would suggest that you do not do that again.
