xk8 misfiring on 4 cylinders
Hi All
Have run into a problem with my xk8. Car has been running great for a few weeks, but suddenly at a roundabout it lost power and started misfiring.
I had to travel about 500 yards to a lay by to get off a busy dual carriageway and the restricted performance light came on with the orange engine light lit up.
The engine sounded horrible and it would only do about 5mph until it came to a standstill. Switched engine off and called out the AA.
AA hooked up computer to OBD socket and got various codes up which were,
P0301, P0302,P0303, P0303. Misfire on cylinders 1 to 4. Also Code P0332 Knock sensor 2 (bank2) Was unable to fix at roadside, so had the car towed home and was advised to seek jaguar specialist to investigate further.
Fearing the worst here, but has anyone any ideas on what this may be ?

Welcome to the forum golfball57,
I've added Model Year detail to your post as this is important information when diagnosing and troubleshooting DTC's. I've also moved it from UK & Eire Region forum to XK8/XKR forum for advice from members with the same model.
Sorry to hear about the breakdown but good to know you got safely off the dual carriageway and the vehicle was recovered to home.
P0332 is KS sense circuit out of range (low voltage) B bank. The default action is to set ignition retard to maximum and limit engine speed to 3000 rpm which explains the symptoms. Possible causes are:
1. Poor sensor contact with the cylinder block
2. KS to ECM sense circuit short circuit to ground
3. KS failure
P0301, P0302, P0303 and P0304 are misfire on cylinders 1 to 4 on A Bank. The usual cause of these codes is coil failure but four concurrently is unlikely. Fuel pressure is a more probable cause.
Having got home and knowing the codes, have you tried clearing them and seeing if they reset?
When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Hi All
Just got the xk8 back today, new timing chains and tensioners fitted cost £1200 all in including new thermostat that looked a bit rough, so very pleased to be back up and running again. Very good indy based in liverpool (jag autos) guys there know their stuff, will use them again in future if needed
