XK8 No start after battery disconnect
2002 XK8 had dead battery. Took battery out and had it recharged and tested. Battery now fine. Re-Installed battery but engine will not crank. Dash lights on but no crank. Is there some kind of reset, since the battery was out of the car for a few days?
Sorry if this was ask before, but I could find a relevant thread.

Are you saying that in no way shape or form can you get the shift lock to release? If that is the case, take something like a small phillips and poke around in the hole at the upper left corner of the of the shifter plate and gently pull on the shifter until it releases. Find neutral, put it back in park, try cycling the key - see what ya get.

Are you stepping on the brake before attempting to move the shifter ? With the shifter in P you should be able to hear a solenoid -click- when you depress the brake pedal with the engine running, or at least with the ignition switch in the last position before the starter is engaged ( position 3 ??).

PS do you have the owners manual set ? There is info in the manual about how to manually disengage the shifter lock. First the plastic blocking plug needs to be removed. You will need a Torx bit to do that, although a large blade screw driver might work.
