XK8 Premium soundsystem, no sound, amplifier and headunit working? HELP!
- Both fuse 9 and 12 passenger side are fine
- The combined antenna motor and amplifier fuse in the trunk is fine.
- Replaced the amplifier, no difference
- Headunit powers on (once it didn't actually, but that was a one time incident), connects to radio stations as the ST icon lights up
- Cannot switch to the cd-changer, indicating that it doesn't get power from the amp
What on earth could be wrong? I'm dying without music in my Jag Anyone in San-Francisco that could repair this? Getting desperate here.
This is a follow up to this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-repair-54699/

If I recall, you ended up with the 'butcher the CD changer' mod. The one thing that is consistent in your problem description are the common grounds in the cable for the AI-NET, which has the data link for the CD changer and the audio signals running on it.
My next step would be to check the integrity of the AI-NET cable grounds.

TAke it to a sound specialist. Altho the stock system was great, but i replaced every single speaker, amp and stock subs from my car. Sounds excellent now w/o any signs of modication to speakers or no sub box in rear.
I put new subs in old sub locations in rear seats.
Only thing changed is headunit chnaged to a navigational unit.
your headunit may power up, but may have some internal problem as you mentioned how it didnt power up once and some issues with volume. its possible.
try playing a casette

Did you solve you problem? I have exactly the same problem. I have replaced the amplifier, checked all the fuses, replaced the CD player, my head unit lights up, changes stations, shows CDs or cassettes playing but no sound. If you solved your problem please tell me how. I am considering replacing the head unit but as it seems to work this doesn't seem necessary.

Cassettes - LOL! I'd be impressed if he still HAD a cassette.
Seriously, unless you're really nostalgic, the cost of fixing the old radio might be more than a direct replacement to something more modern. Have you looked at an outright swap?

My local Jaguar agent had put a computer on the car and told me it was the amplifier which had failed. That proved to be wrong when I replaced the amplifier. Removing the radio (using some slightly misleading instructions from this site - if anyone wants detailed instructions I can give them) I found that the remote signal wire from the radio to the amplifier had become disconnected. Presumably, it had been removed in the past and not put back in properly. One bump too many and it fell out. I wish I had started there and saved a lot of money.

If there isn't a good writeup, or you feel you can describe the procedure in a more clear manner, please do so and document it here in this thread, with pictures if possible or even a video (we loves the moving pictures), and I'll either replace the other instructions, or add this thread to the list of links related to stereo removal.

Note: The pic shows what could be seen as SLOTS at the bottom of the tab structures. They aren't slots. They're actually the "Tabs" that extend inward

I have a problem with Convertible. Trying to find out cause for rear sub distorted sound I plugged in amplifier from Coupe. Now hear unit is not showing "Mode" - S.W. Level (or something like that). also Am + Eject + 9 is not giving option to switch Fade On/Off. Also battery + to - reset has been done (once). all the suggestions are greatly appreciated! (Fade is available from head unit Mode, but bass level +3 gives distoritioned bass) All the same issues wih Coupe Amp.
