XK8 Rear arches corrosion costs
#1

I have some corrosion starting on the rear arches of my 2002 XK8 100,000 miles, as I can gather is a normal issue with the XK8 and some slight repairs had been made by previous owner. I have had a local reputable car restorer take a look and he has quoted me between £2200 - £2700 +vat (20%)
below is his works to be carried out description from his quote.....
Cut out corroded areas of both rear arches.
Remove rear bumper.
lower the under panel
Rear sills, make good previous repairs.
Removal of the necessary interior for welding purpose.
The panels will be welded and refabricated were agreed it is required,
The panels will be prepped and painted off the car
The car will have a high quality 2K primer applied to all panels and after this is fully cured it shall be guide coated and flattened to achieve the sound basis for the base colour and lacquer to be applied.
The car will be refitted, all alignments/gaps checked, the car will then be fully machine polished to achieve the finished condition that we are both aiming for.
Any filler that is used will be aluminium filler and lead loading will be carried out in places.
Top quality materials are used throughout.
what's your opinions and are the quoted prices reasonable ? has anybody had the same work done and at what costs

That sounds about right if the job is done properly. For that price, the only filler I would expect is to smooth out minor surface blemishes prior to painting. I had this done last year followed by a good dose of waxoyl. Expect to find a lot of corrosion behind the minor bubbling on the surface. Here is the thread showing mine: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...t-****-132166/

I'm probably jumping in a bit late on this thread... but these guys in the UK sell pre formed rear quarter panels that may reduce your fabrication costs a bit.
