XK8...Rust, MOT failure, Sills...Please help? :-(
Hello All,
The dreaded curse of the rust has finally caught up with my beloved '96 XK8 and it has failed it's MOT due to the sills and part of the floor.
I'm going to get the work done (plus the rear arches/underseal) and was wondering if there was any words of wisdom/knowledge/pointers anybody would like to pass on?
I've got a highly skilled fabricator who is going to do all the work and he asked me to find out if any action needs to be taken regarding 'security codes' and 'disconnecting the battery'?
Basically, any information you feel may be required will be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
All the best
Nic

Many thanks all for your responses. I've had a look at Mr Murton's website and it does look like he is a master of the XK8/XKR...Some of those custom cars in the gallery are stunning! Sadly, Norwich is a bit too far away for me!
Thanks also for the heads-up regarding the body panels. I've found the sills and floor pan, although I can't find any arches?
I'm still a little concerned that having the battery disconnected for so long could cause problems, but i've been searching the net and I can't find any evidence to back my fears?...Maybe I'm just being a bit paranoid.
Anyway, thanks again and anymore help would be greatly appreciated.

I couldn't find any so de-rusted and patched mine up, the alternative is to find good donors, but replacing a complete arch is a pretty big job, well would be for me.
I did a few repairs on both rear arches.

Many thanks RaceDiagnostics for your posts and photographs. I've had a look at SNG website and it all looks like great news! I thought their prices were quite reasonable too.
For ages I have been searching for certain body panel parts and it appeals they are just starting to come onto the market.
The work you did on your car looks somewhat similar to the work I require (although mine is worse). I would love to have the skills to do the work.
Did you add any additional sealant/extra rust prevention etc to your car while you were doing the work? Did you take any percussions in regards to disconnecting the battery?
Many thanks again for your help.

Yes, I did a lot of de-rusting and remedial activity to ensure that the rust does not come back.

The car finally gets a partial re-spray next Monday.

Thanks again RaceDiagnostics for your post. I've just had a read through your link and I'm extremely impressed with the work you undertook. It looks like you did an excellent job and for that I congratulate you.
Fingers crossed the work required on my car goes just as well. The rust you found inside your car was quite alarming and I fear mine is going to be a lot worse!
Anyway, time will tell and I really appreciate all your help.
Thanks again
