Xk8 secondary tensioners replaced
Hi,
Purchased recently by chance a lovely XK8 with 112,000 miles in A1 condition with full service history. Reading the threads on the forum decided to change upper tensioners. both tensioners cracked, one with slipper missing. checked chains for stretch, then used the zip tie method as timming was perfect.
set the cams so no valves were open at all, and the cams simply lifted with ease. new tensioners installed and primmed these prior to starting engine.
Now engine runs smooth, However, when the peddel is blipped a noise can sometimes be heard, a tap or knock, similar to the noise the engine makes when it expands. is this nomal, do other XK8s suffer similar sounds.
This is not all the time. I decided not to change all tensioners at this time, due to the removal of the crank pulley and see how engine performs. does anyone think this noise could be primary tensioners ?. Perhaps I need to remove sump and see what is there.
Any suggestions welcomed.
Thanks
steve
