Could there be a crack in the casting as i cant find the leak. There is more oil on the heat sheild and i cant see it coming from the cam cover gaskets but it must be unless there is a crack in the casting somewhere but its a pig to see.

I have had the cam coveroff twice now and the gasket and cover looks in good shape, could the case be distorted?

A hairline crack in the cam cover moulding is more likely than a crack in the head casting joint face.

The problem with hairline cracks resulting from uneven or over tightening plastic cam covers is they are almost impossible to see with the cover removed.

Thanks for your reply i am going to remove it AGAIN and fully inspect for cracks tonight.

do you no if the expansion tank switch is the only switch that alerts the low coolant light on the dash?

Check the doughnut gaskets for the partial load breather on top of the valve cover. These are toward the front and will leak around where the hose is pressed into the gasket.

This time removing the cam cover i wanted it to be the last time so. I still couldnt work out how it was leaking with a new gasket and couldnt see a crack in the cover so i just cleaned the sufaces and put loads of dirko sealing compound in the corner near the leak and so far it hasnt leaked. So hopefully that has cured it. Not happy putting sealant there when there shouldnt need to be but it was my last resort.

Default Green arrow

Attachment 94211

The pipe to the Atmospheric Recovery Bottle (arrowed in yellow) doesn't need plugging.

The harness lead to the Low Coolant Sensor (arrowed in green) is the only other item to be disconnected.

Dear Graham. Your photo with the green arrow is wonderful. I have a 2001 XKR. My connector (your green arrow) is floating, not attached to anything.

A new Expansion Tank comes complete with a Low Coolant Sensor and a Pressure Cap.

Graham
Dear Graham. Referencing your photo and the green arrow. My 2001 XKR has the same connector (brown) with the same wires (OG and N/S)? My connector is not attached to anything. I assume is needs to attach to the Coolant sensor, but I have not been able to find the sensor or where it screws in. Can you help?
