Default XK8 windows

Anyone run into a problems on their convertibles where the windows go down a bit when you open the door, but don't go back up when the door is shut? Mine started on the driver's side but now the passenger side started doing it.

Did the car lose power recently? Just need to reset the windows. With the door closed and top up hold down the window control until you hear a click then immediately let the window up and hold until you hear a click.

typical indication of battery going flat. Try resetting the windows by holding the switch in down position until you hear a faint click after the window has bottomed; then run up to close and again listen for the faint click and release. If it continues to be a problem after window reset, - how old is battery? Is it fully charged?

Hi Steve. Yes, I did the holding the window switch thing- I should've stated that. However, had not thought about the battery being old or low. I will check that in the morning. Appreciate the info!

sounds like you do not have a battery tender on the battery when the car is not being driven, or is being stored.

A quality tender, in operation whenever the car is sitting (overnight or longer in my case), is the key to having a trouble free car. These electrical systems are aging out, and put up more resistance than they were designed to have. Keeping the battery at 100% at all times mitigates the effects of the aging on the electrical systems. The alternator alone is not up to the task.

Hi Z. I am in California, and this is my every-day car. We don't "store" our cars. We drive them - all year! Thanks for the info though, I will check my battery as it is a few years old. Appreciate your time & help! Greg

My XKR is also used constantly. As my daily driver it does the job come sun, rain or snow. The battery nevertheless has benefited from having a battery tender keeping it at the optimum. All for the benefit of pushing enough electrons through the aging electrical system. Much better than the alternator (a perfectly good one) can do on its own.

Before I started using the tender the car would intermittently have -fail safe- error messages and other anomalies / gremlins. The tender took care of all those inconveniences. So worth using one for me.
