XK8 or XKR

XK8 or XKR
Taking my time and looking for a good XK8 hopefully 2003 or later. No hurry. My question is if I were to run into an XKR and all things being equal with regards to yr, mileage, condition etc. is an XKR inherently more trouble than an XK8. I don't mind doing a little wrenching and this won't be a daily driver, just wondering about reliability differences. Sometimes you stumble onto just what you're looking for and I would hate to rule out the XKR if there aren't any real valid reasons. Would the XKR be a deal breaker for you. I'm sure this has been asked a 1000 times but I haven't found it.
Thanks, Terry

There aren't any red flags that would lead me to say that a seldom-used XKR will cost a tremendous amount more to maintain during the ten years you might keep it for pleasure driving.
There's a pretty good chance that the XKR will be worth significantly more than an XK8 after ten years of pleasure driving. The time may seem to have passed more quickly, but that's due to the extra horsepower. If it's purchased as a fun car, buy the ["funnest"] one you can afford.

I was just the opposite. I was looking for a daily driver to replace my 95 Corvette which has been a dd for the last 14 years. In my case, daily driving means only about 5,000 or 6,000 miles per year max. I started out looking at XK8 since these were typically a couple of thousand dollars less than the same year XKR. But the more I looked the more I figured that if I got the XK8 I would always regret not getting the XKR so I convinced myself to go the extra and one. Based on visits to sites like this and talking with a bunch of dealers and mechanics, it sounded like the superchargers are pretty bullet-proof and that upkeep would not be much different than the XK8. Plus, you just cannot beat the look of the hood louvers!

I have and XK8 and I would love to have the extra 100 +/- ponies that the XKR has. I'm not a big fan of the high cost for break rotors and pads and the cost to replace the shocks when needed.
Besides those two costs if all things were even as you have stated, I'd go for the XKR and save up my dollars for the replacement items.

I began looking at the XKR because I like horsepower. After driving a few cars I realized the extra 100 hp was not enough to really make the car come to life the way I wanted. My 2700 pound 1995 Mazda RX7 making 420 HP was all I needed for fun and the Jag would be my cruiser. I bought a 2003 XK8 and have been very happy with it.
