Wow. An new engine for 3,000 pounds? Hell - if they had one for the 4.2 XKR, I might buy it just as a spare! A 50k mile used engine cost me $5K about seven years ago.
Rather than deal with oil drain plugs and gaskets, the next time you change your oil replace the drain plug with a Fumoto drain valve. Just search Fumoto online and search for your vehicle.
I've had them for years in all my cars and they are a huge improvement over conventional drain plugs. I can open and close it as I please. Especially with the Jaguar holding so much oil, I can drain some into the pan, shut it off, empty the pan, then drain the rest.
'C' clips that retain the handbrake cable outer on the rear suspension A-Frame, also used in Mini Metro, part no 13H9056. Rimmer Bros listing them at £1.48/ea.
Thanks to zjdmm1 for the recommendation - this sticky is to provide an easily searched location for alternative, non-OEM part fixes for our XK8/R's. I will leave this open so others can add.
REAR VIEW Mirror FIX HELP! I need a new rear view mirror clip for my XKR! Does anybody know where I can get a replacement clip? I haven't been able to find a listing or part number on any of the dealer sites. Thanks in advance! The same mirror is fitted to an Acura tl - check if a clip is listed separately by an Acura dealer. Check my earlier post about the Acura part number for the mirror to help the search. Thank you for your advice! My local Acura dealer came through for me. They looked up a clip using the application of a 2007 Acura TL. They came up with part #76419-SZ3-J05. They had one in stock...It's a perfect match! They charged me $6.07, including sales tax. A bargain, considering I found a used clip for $50 on the web. You're welcome! You could have bought the whole mirror for another $74 and even at that the Acura dealer is making money - the same mirror is over $300 from a Jag dealer - pretty good mark up in anybody's world
Aftermarket coils
I saw this site recommended here and I recently purchased a complete set of these for around $300 as opposed to over $600 for OEM.
Supercharger Idler pulley: Duralast 231157
This is actually a Dayco built pulley, and Autozone has it for $33.99. They don't have it listed for our XKRs, but I can confirm it is an exact fit. It has the same measurements and bearings as the factory pulley. The bearing is an SKF 6303. I installed this pulley on my car and it was a perfect fit.
Fantastic find. I couldn't find one of these a few years ago when I was doing some long term TLC on Kitty. Thanks!

Yeah, it had gone bad on my car as well as the accessories idler pulley. When I was looking for the parts, I couldn't find anything other than the expensive OEM part. I went to the parts counter at Autozone with the old pulley and asked the guy to search in his inventory with his closest match. He took the old pulley with him to compare it to the pulleys he had in stock. He found that one, which was an exact match. He was bewildered that it wasn't listed for the Jag in his system.

I recently changed the transmission fluid in my 00 XKR. After some research I have found the correct specifications from MB (236.10) and an aftermarket brand Ravenol because the Jaguar specified Shell ATF was not available anymore.
Just use MERCON SP. I have scores of thousands of miles on two services that I personally performed. Anything that works superbly in a 230,000 mile transmission (i.e., mine), will be just fine in yours. If you can't do it yourself (or just don't want to), make sure you're side-by-side with the mechanic monitoring the fluid temperature during the filling procedure, and recommend they use a second person in the cockpit to cycle the shift lever. I had a friggin' Jaguar DEALER screw this up, and that's when I took over that maintenance function myself.
It would really aid the community if posters would list the Jaguar P/N first in their posting, followed by the Mfr and P/N of the alternate source. TIA.

.
OK then here some additional info from my research on the gearbox oil. All XKR untill MY 2003 have a MB gearbox. The Jaguar part for the oil is JLM 20292 which in fact according to Jaguar Vehicle Specifications from 2004 (attached screenshot) was Shell ATF 3403 M115. I was unable to find this oil so I tried to source an alternative - apart from the original MB oil I found the german brand Ravenol ATF M 6-Serie.

Sorry just checked that I accidentally inserted a screenshot for the XJ series - here the correct one for the XK series (not much difference though).

Thanks Gary! I was looking for the bolt information it had on the replacement bolts for the crossover/thermostat housing and there it is. Got a water pump change out coming up and figured it would be nice to replace those while I'm at it. As always this group is so helpful!
