XKR 4.2-S Production numbers?
Hey all, curious if anyone knows how many of the XKR 4.2-S configurations were produced and exported to the US. Also what's the difference between the 4.2-S and the Victory Edition? May be selling my XK8 in a year or so for an R, and I want something special I can hold on to for awhile so I'm exploring the limited edition packages (Silverstone and 100 also). Thanks for any info!

Two models of the same specifications, these were the 'Final Series' of XK8/XKR. The 4.2-S was marketed in Europe and RoW; the Victory Edition was marketed in US.
Victory Edition was limited to 1000 vehicles. Available as Coupe or Convertible, the majority are reported to be XKR Convertible. I have read 1004 were produced but can't find the actual reference to that figure.
S was only limited by the number Jaguar could sell but it's still low numbers.
The last vehicle rolled off the production line at Jaguar's Browns Lane factory on Friday 27 May 2005. An XKR Coupe in Frost Blue, this is in the JDHT collection.
My last XK8 was a 4.2-S. A great car and I'm sure these (and the Victory Edition) would be worth holding on to.
Another Member (Frog) had an XKR 4.2-S which he sold for a good price late last year.

Years ago, I worked at Porsche dealership and had a 1989 speedster on the showroom floor. It was nothing more than a 911 Cabriolet with a chopped windshield and turbo-wide rear fenders. A potential customer called asking about it for possible collector value, but he eventually wasn't interested since on the collector car market, the thing that matters most in terms of desirability (price) is unusual high performance engines.
I didn't have a good argument against that; he was correct - especially with Porsches. Fast forward and he still is correct - those 1989 "Speedsters" have a few hopeful sellers trying to get more for the option, but they aren't pulling down much more than a standard 1989 cabriolet with similar miles and definitely not the way the models with clear performance advantages are.
With our cars, there were never any limited editions with more horsepower and/or bigger engine options, manual transmissions, "the only year for this power option," etc. My prediction is that we won't see anything come across the auction blocks commanding much more just because the dealer or manufacturer called something 'limited' when it was produced. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong here.

Thanks for your insight Burg XK8. You do make a valid argument. In researching values on 06 XKRs, the Victory Editions don't seem to command much of a premium now over comparable, standard 05/06 XKRs. So logically speaking, they most likely never will, just like your Speedster example. But the way I see it, if I'm going to buy an '06, and there is no price difference now, might as well buy the Victory Edition because to me it's neat to have one that's a little different than the rest. And, on the off chance it appreciates more (or at all..) than the regular 05/06, well all the better.
One thing I do wonder, though, is if the Silverstone or maybe 100 would have a better chance at achieving collector status than the Victory, simply due to their more limited production runs (250 of each, I think). Also (correct me if I'm wrong) but I do think the Silverstone's performance was improved over the standard XKR with suspension, wheel and brake tweaks. That might also add to the collector value? I've been watching the sales on these 2 models, and some extremely low mileage "time capsule" cars seem to be offered at a premium right now.

Jaguar XKR, only 6500 miles? That's quite the car you have there.. must seem brand new! Also didn't know only the Silverstone coupes got the handling package.. thanks for the info. Noticed you're located in Barrington; I'm in Crystal Lake, so only about 15min away! Enjoying the weather?

I also happen to be in Michigan right now, Ann Arbor though, so not quite as bad as the UP. Maybe this summer sometime.. my cat is all bundled up inside anyway for the duration of the winter. I'd love to get a look at your Silverstone though, with so few miles it must just be immaculate.
