Arrow XKR Clear Coat Peeling Does The Whole Car Need Paint Job Or Panel Repaint ?

Hi I am about to buy a XKR for sale its a 2004 Portfolio super low mileage about 30K. However the rear quarter panel is peeling clear coat. The rest of the car the paint is fine. I talked to a body shop and they recommend the entire car needs a repaint. Does the entire car need a whole repaint or just paint the entire quarter panel ?

It all depends on how good the paint shop is at paint matching. Given the age of the car it’ll be difficult to match.

I've never seen the clear coat peel on a Jaguar before, suspect this is a prior repair.

I disagree. I have had 2 of them have their original clearcoats peel. I have also seen it in many other Ford era Jags, here in PR. I think the clearcoat in Ford era Jags was not made to withstand constant high UV sun exposure.

I would venture to guess that that XKR was not garage kept, or it spent a significant amount of time exposed to sunlight.

My previous XK8 was my daily driver and we did not have covered parking at work. The brutal Texas summers caused clear coat failure on the rear haunches. I'm retired now and my current XK8 doesn't sit in the sun for eight hour stretches. My XF does outside the garage and I am worried about that.

Agree with the above that it looks like original paint. Lexie has several spots where the clear is lifting/pealing & I'm 99 percent sure it's original. In fact, it has new spots that have come up in the few months I've owned it, since sh*t has happened & I don't have the money for a cover. I plan to do a custom paintjob on it anyway, though.

Buy a quality cover for it.

It appears to have had a lot of UV exposure, which caused a bad clearcoat job to delaminate. If it had that much UV exposure, it likely also faded the paint. It will be difficult to match and make it look right.

Since his location is a secret, I don't have any way to help him. We have a great paint matcher here in NC.
