Default xkr diff oil

Can you tell me the grade of oil and capacity for the diff in my 2003 xkr please. I've got a slight leak from the pinion seal. Does just changing the seal JLM20326 usually cure this or does it usually need the whole kit JLM20261 I presume just refill to the filler plug level after
Thanks for any info

After speaking to my local main dealer they've sold me castrol bot720 at £20 per litre. This is supposed to be the oil superseding the original oil. Can't find much reference on line to it being for a x100 though. Capacity is 1.9 litres
Anyone any info or thoughts on this oil?

Thanks for the link. Bot 720 appears to be for a later 5.0 litre diff. Hope the backwards compatibility is ok

Perhaps I'm showing my lack of brand loyalty, but my belief regarding differentials technology advancement (Front & Rear), appear to be almost totally limited to the lubricants. The Dana, Spicer, Salisbury (owned by Dana.) and "Chunk Type" ie Ford 9" have not had to evolve to nowhere near the extent of the rest of the drive train. Late 1950's tech and with very little change. Most any good quality GL5 Synthetic should be satisfactory. Only choice would be viscosity. Would one choose straight 90w or go for the multi-viscosity 75w140? Would the 75w-140 be preferred in a 100K miles+ car? I pose these scenarios to get a better grasp on differentials and their lubes. BTY, I chose Castrol GL5 Synth. 90w. for my Dif. service when I purchased the car. 2 quarts were required to drain and refill.

Spoke to castrols helpline today. extremely knowledgable people. As far as they were concerned my 2003 xkr should have any mineral based LSD oil preferably 90 grade. The BOT720 is a synthetic 75W90 which they said lacks the friction modifier required for the earlier diffs. They said in normal running the BOT720 would be ok but if the lsd starts to do its thing dont be suprised to hear strange noises. I'd since found Gulf Gear LS80W90 which the people at castrol said would be perfect for it. I remember Capri lsds making funny noises when filled with the wrong oil. Glad I found the answers before refitting the diff and subframe assembly. Bot720 part number is C2D3650 but only appears to be listed from 2010 . I suppose you pays your money and takes your choices!
I went for the full pinion kit in the end as there appears to be 3 seals involved on the input shaft. No point in half a job.

Hmm, as far as I know, there is no LSD for our cars, just an open diff. Remember, in the late 90's we were talked out of our mechanical diffs in favor of the electronic traction controls with individual brake activation...

I have shell about their Thermal Stable (TS) SAE 90 oil, but they didn't sell it separated and it was only formulated for Jaguar as a filled for life one (probably the reason why the suplhur odor is so strong).

Have used the Castrol Syntrax Longlife 75W-90 in the past, and since I have the OS Giken for many years now, I use their advised oil, a 80w250. Now the latter is not something I recommend, am just saying that I use it.
