XKR engine cradle revisions?
#2
???
Okay, don't know what just happened. Only thing that posted was 2 of 4 pictures and no text. Well I'm trying to figure out why there are two different versions of engine cradles for 96-06 X100 XK8/R. Had a much more detailed message that vanished. Don't have time at the moment to retype it all. Or maybe it posted and I just don't see it. I'll have to look again later. I'll post the other 2 pictures and hopefully it'll all post. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, there were 4 revisions to the original:
MJA2232AF to VIN 038722
MJD2232AA to VIN A07042
MJD2232BA to VIN A11050
MJE2232AA
C2N2797 from VIN A30645 (4.2)
The only described difference is the appearance of 'HID sensor mounting holes' for the current revision.
Mine is the same as your #2 so presumably the first incarnation.

I'm in the process of replacing the V mounts and engine mounts on my 2000 XKR. Haven had it long. I got it needing tires. The fronts had major inner edge wear. And you can visually see the top of the wheels are leaning in considerably. Found nothing to answer why. Think the cradle might be bent. Going to look it over good when I get it removed. I have a 97 XK8 for parts which I have already removed the cradle from. I didn't realize they were different until after I removed the other one. Trying to determine the difference I found 2 different versions . Couldn't determine which was for what or why they were different. If I find the one damaged I'll put the other on. But if I find no difference I'm questioning which I should use.

The safe answer is to try and replace like-for-like wherever possible.
Your 1997 XK8 donor car is quite a bit younger and 'unfortunately' there were hundreds of component upgrades and running changes up to your 2000 XKR.
The front Cradle 'sub-frame' mount positions (for Vee/Engine/Bush/Wishbone) did not change throughout the XK8 history. So the older item will fit and be functional except it will not perform as well in certain crash scenarios. Just one point, some early US vehicles had slotted holes machined in their subframes for eccentric bolts on the lower wishbones so check your 1997 item is not slotted.

Seems a bit odd that the year of manufacture determines fitment. When researching I found multiple years with both of these numbers. Both were on old and new. They could have been replaced. But wouldn't think that many would have been replaced. I'll probably be putting the same. One back in. From what I've seen, I can't verify damage. But haven't removed it either. I'm waiting for sway bar bushings to get here. Not determined problem yet either. Would have been nice if they would have given us some camber adjustment. Thank you for your input

Well it looks like I'll be installing the older cradle. I'm pretty sure the original one is bent. After removing it I found the v mount didn't wear out and separate as usual. it was broken. Had a hard time removing the cradle. Took a bit of effort with a big pry bar. And almost had to replace some brake lines. Comparing the distance between the upper control arm bolts of the two cradles, there was a bit over 1/4 inch difference. And there's no slots for camber adjustment. Would have been nice. Hard to believe they would build a car with no camber adjustment. Especially with the price tag they put on these. Again, thank you for the input.
