Hi,
I appologise completly for offending any uk forum members. I also appologise for offending any uk XKR owners with my poor valuation.

what in your opinion is a fair price for the above XKR. rather than focusing on my poor valuation, why not give your own valuation. I probally was conservative, but for good reason. Also there can be considerable difference between a buyers and sellers price.

Best Wishes
Steveeasy

As far as I am concerned your apology is not needed.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, you gave yours and others have responded with theirs.

It is the freedom with which people give their views/advice/help on this forum that makes it such a friendly and useful resource for Jaguar owners, and prospective ones!

There is more to this than just valuing the car (in the US, we just go to Blue Book and that's it)....Just because the engine will not turn over doesn't automatically mean the engine is seized. It could have lost a timing chain....If the oil is just low on the dipstick doesn't mean the engine ran without oil. I would do some investigation and establish what is really wrong with it first. A used engine can vary quite a bit in cost. It is possible to replace the short block without going over about $3,000 assuming you R&R it and change over the parts and set it up yourself. This would mean, new oil and water pumps, and a few other small parts to make it dependable. As far as the Brembos, they are better than the standard brakes, they should be fine if they were okay before the incident.

Default Outcome

Firstly thanks to everyone for their help, it is appreciated.

I did not buy the car. Why?

I had found a low mileage engine from a suggested breaker for £1500 delivered with 3 months warranty.
I was not going to do the work myself, so add the cost of changing the engine, 18 hours quoted so about £1200, plus changing the bolt on parts, aircon service etc. Say £3000
I then made allowance for the following; Tyres, stood for 3 years, Disks and pads, rusty, I have found that where the pads sit rusts faster so even if they clean up the braking can be uneven, MOT advisory on a front wheel bearing.
Add in a service, new battery, gearbox oil might be advised etc.

So where did I end up? The above I guesstimated as £5000, add in buy total at £1500 gave £6500.

How much would it be worth? £7K to £10K was my guess, the £10K end is more dealer with the prep and guarantee, private?
All I can say is I recently tried to sell a 1996 X300 3.2 Executive in very good condition, 100,000 mls service history etc for £1500, no interest, dealers offering £500. Managed to get £1000 in part ex. finally.

So what do XKR's actually make with 93000 miles part service history private?

So I finally agreed with the "Walkaway" suggestion.

I understand it has been sold for breaking as it is worth more in parts.

P.S. I turned down a tatty running E Type for £250 in early 1970's.

Thanks all.

That sounds like a good decision. After resolving all the issues that you had identified there might still have been many others that would turn up only after getting it on the road.
