XKR with a fried ECM

XKR with a fried ECM
My son's 2006 XKR needs another ECM. The car got parked for a period of time, mice got in it and chewed a bunch of wiring (mostly throttle body/fuel system wires). Huge mess. And we unwittingly started the car in that condition. I spliced and soldered all the wires back together; the engine will start and idle, but no throttle response. Sent the computer off to have it checked out...they confirmed it was fried.
From what I've read so far on this forum, it appears a used replacement ECM has to be from the same year and I'm guessing a certain VIN# range. And it's not just a simple "plug and play" operation...I obviously don't have the tools for the job. Can anyone recommend a knowledgable mech in the East Texas area? With only 70K miles, it seems wrong to put it to pasture just yet. But the car's not worth investing what the dealership wants to fix it.
Much obliged for any help.

motorcarman (Bob Gauff) is located in Decatur, north of Fort Worth, and has been repairing Jags for many years, as well as offering expert advice to forum members. You can't send him a PM because you're a new member, but perhaps he will see this thread and contact you. The cost of shipping the car to him should not be unreasonable.

DeadCat and the ECU
You can go to:: www.nationwideautorecycling.com
They are up East and recycle all types of wrecked Cars... I got an extra ECU from them about 6 months ago for about $450.00 as I wanted an extra.....They take Credit Cards up to $500.00...If it is over that it's COD....When I got mine they had several XKR's which had been Totaled...
Check them out!

If an X100 and not X150 the eCM's pretty easy to access but you'll need a broad flatblade screwdriver.
Once out simply look at the part number on it and check ebay, I bought exact number modules for both my transmission and engine for less than £200 for both, and they both worked!
Although appreciate it may have been easier to purchase for my 96 than your 06.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
zray - As best as I recall (it's been a while since we checked) the dealership in Dallas wanted nearly $5000 just for a new computer, and couldn't commit to what labor would be.
JagV8 - Thanks for giving Bob a heads up! He has messaged me. There may yet be a little life in this cat!

I talked to my buddy (still works for the Jaguar dealer) and he said he never had any luck with used modules for the 2003 onward ECMs.
He always got a VIN mismatch message. The older 4.0 engine cars were different and you could install a used ECM with just a simple Immobilization Setup.
Looks like a NEW ECM might be your best option.
