Coupes have strap ,coverts do not.GET A COPY OF JTIS AND IT HAS ALL THE THINGS YOU WILL NEED TO DO ON BOTH THE CONVERT AS WELL AS THE COUPE.You will also have to get under the car and remove the fuel lines before you can remove the tank. Please check on how to use the search function. It's in the new members area, also please look over the General area.

Fuel pump replacement XKR 2000
Today, I learned that the XK8 gas-tank removal procedure does not apply to the XKR /2000. The XKR has a heat shield on-top of the differential that hiddes the fuel lines going into the tank. I am going crazy trying to figure out how to do it. It looks like the differential will need to come down. Crazy, even by Jaguar standards!

Member "bgoldstucker," I just did this (Fuel Pump Replacement) two weeks ago on my 2003 XKR.
There is precious little room above the diff. to get your hands, tools etc through and past the heat shield and the access hole in the floor of the trunk - but you CAN do it! Though, I must say, it's by far the most frustrating part of the job.

shows how to make a special tool that would have made this job MUCH easier for me.
Make the tool and proceed carefully - You CAN do it! A person to help you on the top side while you are laying on your back, squeezing your hands into places that will scrape them up - and then fill the scratches with greasy dirt would be helpful too.

I attempted to pull the tank on my 99 XK8, and it's pretty difficult job on your back. You just cannot maneuver around, and it's a dirty job. It's a 2.7 hour on the base rate manual.
Luckily, we can get Jag mechanic work done @ $50 per hour. Including a roll back ride to the shop, it was well worth $190 to get it done. The older fuel pump is off a Taurus, and it was something like $58 @ RockAuto.com. Autozone wanted $98 for the part. Then, you have to get a "sock" and a fuel pump at the same time.
I'm just thankful I found a local shop that has Jag experience for such a reasonable rate. For the more difficult problems, I'd take the car to Memphis to a 23 year Jag dealer mechanic that grew up across the street from my wife.

On my car, I bought the Airtex pumps and both leads from the dealer (pumps were $50 for a pair at the time with all the crap like the sock and clamps and such; wires were $50 each). It's a doable job, but definitely more trouble than $190.

I'm faced with the same thing.
Luckily for me, a previous owner already created the easy-access top hatch mod that avoids pulling the gas tank.
The mod is described here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-access-118362
If he hadn't already created this, I was prepared to do so.
