XKR Nav Screen Update to Touch

Hi all
I've seen posts on updating the HU to aftermarket stereo+nav, or injecting video or Garmin into the factory Nav screen, but I haven't seen where anyone has replaced the factory Nav screen with a touchscreen.
Ideally I'd like to keep the factory HU but upgrade the Nav screen to a touch. There are lots of portable GPS that would fit the dash space close enough, but the don't have everything I'm looking for:
1. Fit in the 2004 dash Nav window without cutting
2. Have a decent Nav function with touchscreen
3. Bluetooth phone and audio out to speakers
4. (this seems to be the killer) take a video input from other source (for a rear camera + tv input)
My goal is to keep factory HU, and add all the new "goodies" to the screen. I could go new HU, but I like the factory look.
Any success in wrangling a touchscreen with all or most of the above features?
Thanks

That actually looks like Kenwood's Carportal system with their own touchscreen monitor. Once you add a bluetooth module, navigation module, and SAT or HD Radio, you're going to be well over $1000 just in the components. But, its highly expandable.

Has any forum menber installed Kenwood's Carportal system and/or have any experience with Design XKR? I'd be interested in hearing about how the system works.

There is a guy called Phil on the XKEC who has developed a touch screen filter to work with the original satnav screen, this works along side a Garmin satnav and hard drive, he has negotiated licence terms with Garmin to on sell the software in his systems.
A few club members have done the set up and are very happy, the screen is a bit small for me.
Here is a link for anyone who is a club member to take a look maybe WhiteXKR can take a look and give you his feelings... CLICK HERE

I got a response from Design XKR to the email I sent yesterday. They do not supply kits, you have to bring your car to them. Since I live in Dallas and they're in the UK this is not really an option.
That said, I have located the components (thanks to H2Oboy) and am looking for some place in Dallas that can make the custom wood dash and the wiring harness. There's a place in Frisco called Sonic Boom Custom Audio that I think may be able to do the work but I'm out of town for a few weeks and haven't been able to talk to them. Does anyone from the Dallas area have any experience with them?
I'm also interested in the solution mentioned by XKRacer but cannot reach the site he linked to but am still trying.

I joined the XKEC site, very interesting and well worth the fee. I read the entire thread regarding the CarPC, again very interesting but I don't think it's for me. I would like to find a custom car audio shop that can install the Kenwood Car Portal system used by Design XKR. As mentioned above, I have located one shop near Dallas, in Frisco, that I think may be able to do the job but I haven't been able to talk to them yet. Unfortunately, I'm out of town on business. I was hoping to be back in Dallas in early October but now it looks like it'll be at least the third week of November before I get back. I plan on continuing to look for options and I'll install the best option I can find.

Mark, call Woody's Car Audio over in Ft Worth, they are an Alpine, JL Audio, and Kenwood specific dealer. If anyone has done one in the area, they have. They do custom stuff all the time and often work on jaguars, porsche, bmw, mercedes from Autobahn for the dealer and new buyers. Sometimes they take awhile for more complex jobs, but they seem to do a very good job in the end. After working on mine, they may have gained alot of experience from it.

I understand the desire to have a touchscreen, but IMO, the useabilty of the Garmin GVN-53 with it's wireless remote should not be underestimated.
The remote has an 'eraser' type mouse, plus direct text entry with a 'phone style' keypad. It is far superior to the joystick on the factory nav. With the remote mounted on a Kuda mount, there is no fumbling and it works quite seamlessly. The GVN-53 provide excellent XM radio integration also, and the traffic and weather functions are fantastic. There is nothing cooler than getting a traffic report of traffic trouble up ahead automatically breaking into whatever you are listening to (radio, CD, XM, iPod).
In addition, it is easy to add a video adapter with multiple inputs to the factory screen, such as for a backup camera, and this system can still be integrated with an inexpensive Bluetooth adapter for phone functions and/or iPod audio.

I'm back home and getting ready to start on this year's mods, including the audio/nav upgrade. After a couple months of research, I have concluded that the only really practical solution is the one recommended by WhiteXKR and H2Oboy so this is the route I will be taking. I have already purchased all of the components and will likely start work on it in December. H2Oboy, if your offer to come over and look at yours is still open, I'd like to take you up on it. PM me with your contact info and we'll set up a time. Thanks,
Mark

Here's my solution, using NavTool 3.0 and Discount Car Stereo's Bluetooth adapter: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ay-how-200834/
A cool solution, but you do realize you just necroposted on a 12 year old thread?
