XKR pinging, power loss, overheat fix
Have been having a pinging problem with my 2004 XKR, had the dealership apply the ECM update (which hadn't been done) and was called out to replace pinging. No impact. Dyno power was down and car was running way too hot. The fact you can't trust the temp guage is clearly a problem in running this stuff down. After doing a double din stereo installation found the fuse was blown on the intercooler pump. Replaced fuse but it blew again. Just replaced pump ($417 part from Jaguar). Car is like a new car, idles smoother, no pinging, much more power. Had looked at codes but none showed this as a problem and the only way I found it was going through every fuse to find the one that was blown after having some issues with the Stereo installation (which is working fine now as well and had unrelated installation issues tied to a lose lead to the DSC switch).
Be aware that the Ford SVT intercooler pump ($74 item) may be the same part (I ordered one and will do a comparison and post the result).
But if you are having pinging and it feels like you are losing power it may be that this pump has failed. Check the intercooler fuse (15 amp fuse on passenger side engine compartment bank US car) to see if it is blown. You may also want to turn on ignition and listen to see if pump is running.

Check the FAQ's---The I/C aux. coolant pump was manufactured by Hella for these cars. When mine was toast I replaced it with a Bosch which is the same pump used by Ford on there S/C "Lightning" series vehicles. I think I paid around $100 for the pump which has a little bit better flow rate than the Hella.

We're seeing more and more of those intercooler pump failures, the continuing shorting of that fuse is a dead giveaway. I'm glad to see you and mountaincat have pursued (and are still pursuing) more affordable options and willing to share the news with the members here. Thanks to both of ya!

Got alternative Intercooler Pump
Got in the GENUINE FORD RACING Lightning Cobra SVT Intercooler Electric Water Pump. This is a shot of it next to the old intercooler pump. Note the Jag unit cost me about $410 the Ford unit cost $80 with shipping on e-Bay. It is a much better built pump. I've pulled the wiring and connector off the old pump and put it on the new pump. Now I just have to get it into the shop and swap the pumps out (I don't mess with antifreeze at the house, too many pets).

I looked for a Ford substitue and could not locate one I'm glad you saved a few bucks. Mine cost me 500.00. BTW which fuse number was blown mine was 15 in the engine compartment.

Yep Bosch, I'm just damned glad it isn't Lucus... Went on eBay the seller is still selling them but raised his price $10. Still under a quarter of the Jag price for a much better built pump.
