This clip had broken off and was rubbing in the front, allowing part of the insulation to wear off and shorting out randomly. The tech at the dealership fixed the wires and I haven't had this condition happen since.

Though I didn't see the actual wires that were frayed, the tech told me that he really had to do some examining with a really good flashlight before he was able to see it.
the driver side ignition relay in fuse box, needs to be changed andbthe bcm capacitors treated. My car still does this and it even has the techs in laugh ter, asbthey call my car possessed.

Is there a relay map for the XK8 that shows which relay in which driver side relay box is the ignition relay? Is it the center box, center row, furthest toward passenger side?

Is there some information about treating BCM capacitors?

Thanks!

start pulling the relays by the driver side door, when your car shuts off, that's the relay you are after, this worked for me.

The bcm is behind the glove box, it can be sent out to any ecm repair shop on ebay to replace any bad capacitors for cheap. Also when the car is stuck on bang your driver and passenger seats to see if the cluster light s flicker, if so check wires and module below the seats by removing the seats.

Default Ignition relay location and BCM capacitors

Thanks for the tips.
I still hope to find a relay map someday. The first time it wouldn't shut off, I pulled fuses and relays until something worked, which was the fuel pump relay. There are at least a half dozen boxes with relays on this car, and I started in the wrong box. I was pulling the ECM fuse to shut it off, but I was warned that might harm the ECM, so now I'm disconnecting the battery ground to kill it. Afterwards it will either restart immediately or not for hours. Hopefully the problem is simply a sluggish or flaky relay.

This oneline for a 2000 XK8/R has the relays marked on it. I would suggest swapping the relays first and if it shuts down.

Found the problem,

the ac pressure sensor wire harness rubbed on the crankshaft pulley, causing several wires to short to ground and also cut a few.

You cant see it that good at top, but jack up the car and directly in the center of car at crank pulley, you will see what Im talking about.
