Default XKR and XJR CATS bilstein shock interchange?

question for the forum. I have a 2000 XKR with cats suspension . While replacing the rear spring isolator that had crumbled found out my rear shocks seem to be bad. they compress hard but one doesn't rebound back at all and the other rebounds veery slow.

Well i have a pair of almost new cats green bilstein shocks from a 2003 xjr and was wondering if those could work with my xkr .
side by side the green 2003 shocks look taller but mot sure if its because mine are jam or collapsed.

has anybody done this before or knows if they can be interchanged?

my 2000xkr shocks are MJB3541EB
the 2003 xjr ahocks are MNC3541EB

I think they may fit from looking at the diagrams. Check to see if the CATS connector is the same between the two. If they are, then you could just end up with either an exact fit or a slight rear end lift. I think the main difference between both parts may be how they are tuned. I suspect the XJR shocks to be a little softer on rebound and compression.

Thanks giandanielxk8;

Had same thoughts on softer rebound now these are the green shocks which should be the sport version so maybe would not make a lot of difference versus my shot units!

So far ive connected them plugs and didn't get any suspension fault so that part seems ok -plugs are same.

what ive noticed is that compared to mine the xjr pistons are 1 centimeter or so taller but not sure since mine are jammed bottom line they may be same hight. will do a compression test to see if compressed they measure the same and if so i guess will try them. its that or 300 per shock!

Where did you find a CATS shock for the shockingly low price of $300?

Friend of mine that deals with european car parts. The average retail price may be 380 to almost 450 retail depending on stock.

Last time I checked Rockauto had them near $300. The shipping is where they kill your wallet.

The shocks worked very well considering mine were shot. handling is nice, not hard bur taut and quite posh in the rear . Not sure if the hard/soft setting are same as mine but do work well so far . Have heard in the forum bilstein does rebuild shocks , so will keep the old ones and inquire. So far it rides like a dream , need to check a clunk that happens sometimes if im coasting and then accelerate as it may be the drive shaft joints.
