XKR/XJR-S oil/filter change... how often?
Hi all,
I have an XKR 2006 and an XJR-S 1992. I have only clocked up 5 000km on the XKR and 400km on the XJR-S this season. The Jaguar dealer/service centre has advised that I change the oil and filter every year regardless of milage.
Any thoughts on this recommendation?
Thanks,
Mark.

It's a no brainier for me in terms of cost/benefit.
I change the oil and all filters every March as part of the "new season service" and I do less than 5K miles/year - costs me less than £100
The mechanic jokes he uses the oil drained out of my car to put in his as it's so clean 😄
Small price to pay for peace of mind on this ageing engine

Seriously, an oil change after 250 miles, anyone think that the Jag recommendation may also be something to do with keeping their service dept busy.
I suggest the OP call the Jag service dept and ask if he should change the oil after 12 months and 250 miles.
My old 2002 TT had its oil changed on an 18,000 mile service routine and it was moved on with 130,000 miles on the clock, the engine pulled as good then as when I bought it.
It had a remapped 1.8l engine producing 265bhp and it was hammered every day.
Are the Audi engines just light years ahead of the Jag engines?

Well, this could roll...
There is a rationale for changing oil annually even on low-usage cars, to some extent based on the assumption that most journeys will be of short duration where the oil doesn't reach temperatures that allow condensates to boil off and the potential for sludging is increased.
I stick to (max) 12 month intervals as mileage is typically low, and I freely admit to being 'old skool' and also that oil technology has moved on more than a little since I started buying it in the seventies.
If 3000 (or 300) miles gives you comfort then stick to it... mineral or synthetic
More banter than you can shake a stick at here: https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forum...s.php?ubb=cfrm
