So I have been "happy" with my black coupe, and have been bringing it back to stock/reliability over the last few months but didn't feel it was exactly the right car for me. Something about the black was too cool I think.
I have been looking at 04 XJ8's, XJRs and XK8 coupes. (I love my xk8 vert, no plans for change there) and I stumbled across a 2001 silver with AGD interior for 5K. I normally troll for lower priced cars but I figured I would look and sure enough, it had transmission problems. Knowing that price was too high I figured I would take a look at it and make an offer. I was  at how clean it was when I got there. 89K miles and the interior was never smoked in and had ZERO tears. Wood grain- perfect. Engine compartment? All OEM connectors and hoses. Now for the startup. Perfect. And TIGHT. We haggled a it and at the end of the day we settled on a fair price for both of us (more than I like to pay, but it is CLEAN) Drove it home in transmission limp mode about 40 miles and it was a champ.
I will add half a quart of tranny fluid to see if that improves the situation and if not I will replace the A drum and change out the fluid. I will also weight changing out the pressure valve, as I will probably keep this one for a long time.
