2000 grit used to flatten the obvious issues in the clear coat on the hood. From Dave's estimation, this car has been painted a few times over its lifetime...pointed out a fisheye on the roof that had escaped my notice...and mentioned that the reason the front of the bonnet was so stone chipped was that when the bonnet was repainted, the shop that did the work did not bring the surface down to primer, but just sanded the top coat and reshot. This makes the paint too thick, which chips easier.
