Concerns about operating temp of unit which gets hot! No other feasible location. This is operation without the trim panel back in place, so it's gonna get hotter once the panel is replaced..

This is the V6….There are 4 torx bolts each intercooler holding it to the cover. Probably a gasket too where the water feeds poke through the cover each side. However masking up as you planned should work.

Judging from your diagram your numbering appears to be incorrect so you may have replaced the wrong injector. This photo is from the workshop manual.
