I found that once the shaft was installed in the column tube (on the bench) and the cleaned and lubed copper spring contacts were installed that the "lead contact" spring squeaked a bit. I tried to dampen the ringing out several ways. Putting 2 layers of shrink wrap on the long part of the spring (shown) made it quit, ...no more squeak!
